Patrol PC Frequently Asked Questions
Are Patrol PC computers really 100% designed and built in the US? Why does that matter?
Yes, at our factory in North Attleboro, MA. For many obvious reasons, we support “Made in America”. Many companies “assemble” components that are built overseas. We are one of the few remaining US computer companies who do not source components in the Far East, instead having them built to our specs here in the USA. That supports the US economy, and gives us total control over all aspects of the design and manufacturing process, allowing us to optimize your computer for Police, Fire and EMS work. And when you call in for support, the English-speaking person who answers the phone is in the same building with person who designed it and the person who assembled it.Back to Top
Do I have to worry about compatibility with my existing computers and networks?
No worries. Patrol PC tablets are customized for Police, Fire and EMS work, but do so using the latest industry standard Intel processors and Microsoft Windows operating systems. We also use industry standard USB and Ethernet ports, and standard Wireless and Bluetooth communications. A Patrol PC system is as easy to use as your personal computer at home, and in many cases it is actually easier. At the same time, it is one of the most powerful computers you can buy, able to support any in-car application such as ALPR and Video.Back to Top

What do you mean by ultra-rugged?
Everyone wants a computer that will stand up to the rigors of police and first-responder work. Many computer companies will say they have “ruggedized” their computers, but only Patrol PC mills our tablet frame out of a block of aluminum, and then compliments it with Ultra-Armor Touch Screen Glass, creating an all-in-one, self-contained system that is truly deserving of the term “Ultra-Rugged”.Back to Top
Why is an all-in-one tablet better than a laptop for my vehicle?
If the computer is a shared asset that stays in the vehicle, you do not need a laptop or a docking station, nor the extra cost associated with both. Laptops and docks take up extra space in the vehicle cockpit that tablets do not. Laptops have moving parts that can loosen up and break over time – Patrol PC tablets have no moving parts – reducing your repair bills over time. And because we have fewer parts, mounting and installation is often accomplished in 1/3 the time of a typical installation, saving you additional time and money.Back to Top
Why is an all-in-one tablet solution better than my multi-piece tablet solution?
We like the fact that you are using a tablet, but a multi-piece system will have a display mounted in the dash, and other components wired into the glove box or the trunk. Not only does this create multiple points of potential failure, but it complicates the entire process of installing and supporting a computer system in your vehicle. Not to mention the fact that your glove box and trunk can get very hot in the summer, and heat kills computers. Patrol PC has simplified the entire process by putting everything you need in one self-contained tablet. And our “fan-less” design actually dissipates heat better than a typical fan-cooled system, which means a longer computer life with fewer repairs.Back to Top
What kind of mounting hardware do you support, do you make your own mounts, and can I use my existing mounts?
Patrol PC systems are designed for ease of installation and removal, requiring only 4 screws to mount. As a result, we support (and are supported by) most of the industry leading mounting platforms from companies like HINT, Havis, Jotto Desk, Gamber Johnson and RAM. And although we recommend that you get new mounting hardware with your tablet, in many cases our systems can also be retro-fitted to existing mounting hardware.Back to Top
How much does a Patrol PC system cost compared to other rugged laptops or tablets?
Unlike other companies that sell “off-the-shelf” models that can be used for Police, Fire of EMS work, Patrol PC builds our customers’ systems to order, giving you exactly what you want in your system – no more and no less. So your cost will be determined by your system requirements. That being said, your total cost of purchase and installation will be very competitive with other rugged solutions, and is often less when all costs are considered. Bottom line – we will work with you to configure a system that meets your needs and your budget!Back to Top
